Our Founding Fathers understood that the experiment in democracy they created would founder if something wasn’t done to create an effective central government. Enter the Continental Congress in 1787. In four short months, the Constitution emerged and became the law of the land when the New Hampshire legislature became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution in June 1788.
