Speech – FW-190 versus F4U Corsair

Cavanaugh Flight Museum 4572 Claire Chennault St, Addison, TX, United States

By the time of the Tirpitz raid, the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy was flying Martlets (F4F Wildcats) from its smaller escort carriers and Gannets (F6Fs) from its larger carriers in the Atlantic. Anticipating that U.S. Navy fighters might face the FW-190 in combat in Europe, the service wanted to fly an FW-190 against an F4U-1 Corsair and an F6F-3 Hellcat. Both of which were in U.S. Navy squadrons in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
